I saw them about 60 kms north of Helsinki back in November 2002. It was pretty darn cold. It was my first trip to Finland and I don't think it really registered until later that I had seen them because I was so tired. I'd been picked up from the airport and we headed north. Stopped for coffee at some little place and there they were. It was pretty awesome.

![]() I live really close to Helsinki and I've seen them many many times, thought the ones I've seen in Lapland have been bigger and brighter since the sky is clearer there.
