Posted 16th-December-2008 at 11:02 PM by Aleksis Kivi

Kantele is a Finnish traditional plucked string instrument.

Oldest forms of kantele have 5 or 6 horsehair strings

Modern concert kanteles can have up to 40 strings.

The kantele has a distinctive bell-like sound.

Players hold the instrument in their laps or on a small table.

Two main techniques to play:
-Plucking the strings with their fingers
-Strumming unstopped strings
