Rovaniemi (translated from the Lappish roave which means hill) is a city in Finland as well as capital of the Province of Lapland close to the Arctic Circle and situated between Korkalovaara, Ounasvaara and the rivers of Kemijoki and Ounasjoki.

The city has 60.000 inhabitants and is one of the largest cities in the world if it is compared by the area.

Tourism is a very important industry and there are plenty of hotels and restaurants located in the town. Landmarks of Rovaniemi are the Jätkänkynttilä bridge, the Lappia House (theater),
the Rovaniemi Town Hall, as well as the Artktikum House.

The library, concert hall and congress centre are designed by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Another highlight is the Santa Claus Village and Santapark which is located 8 km north of the centre.

Further, it has the world's most norhern branch of McDonald's and the northernmost point of VR's electric Railway Station. Finally, you can also observe the Aurora Borealis or Nothern Lights in Rovaniemi.
