Yes I tend to agree! I would take a Finnish coffee and pulla over a lamington any day!

I'm sure if you think outside the square a bit you will come up with something. I guess it also depends on if you have money to get something set up or purchase an existing business.

Hey, maybe I can come work with you guys! I will be needing a job next year if we go through with our planned move to Finland

Ok, we're giving the Aussie cafe some serious thought. Does anyone know if there's anything like it in Helsinki? I believe there's an Aussie bar in Pori, but we don't want a bar. Just a cafe and maybe sell Australian memorabilia as well.

Really? Damn. So maybe an Aussie Cafe wouldn't be a good idea. Perhaps I need to check out Reindeer farming.

Really? what are the restaurants called? I checked out eat.fi and they don't list any Australian restaurants.

Anyway Peni, a restaurant and a cafe are quite different to one another. Besides, you could make sure you set up somethere not in direct competition with any existing Australian style businesses. You can focus on the coffee, aussie cakes and supplying vegemite to Aussie expats

I send Australian coffee to my family in Finland all the time and they love it! They find it very smooth and chocolatey. Its definitely a unique coffee that would get people talking. You could import bulk quantities direct from the growers in the tropical and rainforest regions where it is grown.

    Default Coffee

    G'day Peni!

That idea of an Australian cafe sounds good. The Finns do like their coffee. I've been living here since last August.
Trying to start a small business of my own at the moment, a business of a different sort.
But coffee sounds good. You may need to integrate Finnish coffee into it though, show a bit of Finnish pride. I have noticed also that the Finns are very fond of ice-cream, they especially tend to have it with coffee a lot.
I can't really understand this. I tried it once myself, but it's a big No-No with this Irishman. But the Finns are mad for it!
And I believe there used to be an Australian Ice-cream shop in my hometown Dublin a few years ago which did quite well as a new fad, but then crashed as we don't have great ice-cream summers in Ireland anymore. But it did well while the sun was shining.
However, the story is different in Finland. Their summers are great (one of the reasons I moved here). Perfert for ice-cream bars. I think the coffee/ice-cream bar could be a winner for you. And don't worry, the Finns can eat ice-cream all year round. So mix the extraordinary recipes like liquorice ice-cream with some Aussie recipes and you might win over the Finnish senses!!

Hope whatever you decide to do works out for the best.
    Good luck!!

    Bosco

p.s. I've seen small ice-cream/coffee bars like the type that might suit you in Germany a lot. They're usually quite small inside with nicely illustrated menu cards. And they're always packed out
