Summer in Finland with kid... Any ideas?

Hello friends! It's my first post here. Hope it will be a success
So I've got an idea to visit Finland this summer with my kid (2,5 yo) for 2-4 weeks. Looking for fresh air, getting to know the culture of origin, emotions and perhaps some new little friends. We have relatives in Kuopio but I would like not to bother them with our constsnt presence and live separately, go sightseeing and come to them from time to time. I understand that living in a hotel for so long can be rather expensive. Can you suggest anything safe, nice, clean and not too expensive (Helsinki, Lahti, Kuipio, Tampere,..)?
Thank you in advance!

Hello Irinkka, I think there is a chance for you to maybe find a place through the helsinki student housing association. HOAS - Kotisivu
Here is one link "kirpputori=fleamarket". http://www.hoas.fi/tjnotes/foru451v....Category=SUO#5
There the students are offering their apartment in helsinki eg. for rent for short period of times. Sometimes fully furnished.
You can try if this works.

Hello Irinkka!

My daughter and I were in Helsinki in Summer 2006 and we stayed at Hostel Academica. There are several hostels in the area. The Hostel Academica was very nice, and at a reasonable price, I thought, about 50 Euros per night. I don't know what your budget is, but there are also cheaper rooms available. It is student housing (dormitory), rented out during the summer when the students aren't there. It is located within walking distance of most areas of interest and bus and tram stops are close by. We really loved it there!
