Need help with Finnish sentences
Hey,
I've just been learning some stuff from a book and then I put into my translator 'It is also in your car' and it came out as 'Se on myos autossa' but I thought it should be 'Se on myos autossasi'
can someone just explain to me if im wrong or whatever because when I type in 'Se on myos autossasi' it comes out as 'It is also a car' but '-ssa and -si' make it 'in your' I thought.
Thanks

Re: Need help with sentences
Hi!
It's just because the on-line translators aren't doing perfect job. As you yourself can see, you know better than the translator. The possessive suffix is important for proper language, but it also complicates the way translator SW should work.
(Pls note also is myös instead of myos)
Even some language learning books omit the possessive suffix in beginners level. The motivation is that they just want to make learning the basics simple. Fair enough.
- However, it leads to many foreigners to think that "Tässä on meidän uusi naapuri Pekka" is 100% correct, although the proper form would be "Tässä on meidän uusi naapurimme Pekka". There's actually no chance of misunderstanding with the first one, and it's often used in puhekieli. But it sounds pretty uneducated, when used in the middle of yleiskieli (=proper Finnish).

Re: Need help with sentences
Hi!
Have you tried these?
å Alt 0229
Å Alt 0197
Ä Alt 0196
ä Alt 0228
Ö Alt 0214
ö Alt 0246
You know how to do them? - - You need a keyboard with a number pad. You keep the Alt key depressed and key in the numbers at the same time. - You should have the NumLk on.
