Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
I got the full version for Christmas. I wondered if anybody used it and helped them some. I know its not the best program in the world but they don't offer Finnish in Rosetta Stone so you have to take what you can get. Anyways to me, the program is doing a great job teaching me the words. As for the grammar, I have to find another way to learn that. But I think its best that I learn words first, then learn how to properly say them later (the grammar) Is that your best method of self taught? Pretty fun program by the way. I'm glad I have it.

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
Hi Ivy,
I have used BYKI Finnish, I still use it from time to time, and I think it is excellent! I learned so much vocabulary from it that I get a basic understanding of quite alot of signs and newspaper articles. But like you said grammar is another story, I recommend the book "From start to Finnish".

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
Thanks for the feedback! I did notice that caught on how to spell better and pronunciation. Also it makes it much easier to remember words and use them. I'll have to check that book out.

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
I have been using Finnish Byki and I am loving it! I'd put my vocab count at about 150 words which is a pretty good start in my opinion! It is definitely only good for vocab and pronunciation though, not grammar. I hope you find it as helpful as I have been.

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
I am so far.
My count is around 300 but I have to test myself a lot to remember all that. I was also making sure that I'm doing the best thing for self taught. So far, its going great.

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
When I first came to Finland I was told, Learn the grammar first! Today I can say a lot of things(words) in Finnish but if I have just one grammatical mistake people do not understand what I mean.
Of cause the words help yourself when you to the shop or try to read signs but grammar is really important in Finnish because even simple words like "No" and "Or" are subject to change.
The books that have been used in the Finnish courses I have taken in Finland have been Hyvin Menee and Hyvin Menee 2.
There should be one book that is really good for grammar but cant remember its name though.

Re: Has anybody used Byki Finnish?
The "Hyvin Menee" books are all in Finnish and only Finnish. Although they are not very difficult to understand the "From Start to Finnish" is probably a better choice if you have not had any Finnish courses as they have all the answers to the tasks in the back of the book and the thinks are explaied in English.
In conclusion; "from start to Finnish" is easier to start with but "hyvin menee" givers better/faster results
