Do you think this ratio will increase in the future...

Where have to get that? I thought that immigration in Finland was minimum.... Well, that's way better.... More people who sure can speak english when I'll be there...

Why can't happen that here? 1 out of 4 marriages involving a Finn?xD

Nevermind that

Of course. Certain foreigners have more reason to get married than Finns. They want their resident permits and will do anything to get it. lol.

well like it has been said before, marriage is not very common nowadays in Finland. I guess some foreigners might want to marry a finn in order to get the citizenship, but yeah. it's the same everywhere (well at least here).
I have no clue wether or not that phenomenom will evolve. :/
well, if I ever end up living in finland, I'll work to get that citizenship (ex: getting that certificate prooving you know enough finnish/you are fluent enough to live and work in Finland). I don't want to marry anyone to get a citizenship or whatever. to me, it's not right, and I call this manipulating people.

there is talk of Finland speeding up that process so that if you speak Finnish fluent enough you can apply straight away for permanent or citizenship. how many countries do that? speak the local and get a passport...

I SO agree with you T-Bag! I don't see myself ever dating a Finn. I can't stand guys who can't talk to me without being totally intoxicated. I will probably be one of the statistics marrying a foreigner. I don't know if I'll stay in Finland though.. hehehe...

On the matter of marrying people for paperwork. I would personally not marry someone just because they wanted to reside in Finland. If however, I should marry a foreigner and stay in Finland, I would be okay with getting them the paperwork needed to stay here with me. I've done that myself. I didn't marry someone to gain entry to the US, but to be with the man I loved. I'm personally quite against marrying people on paper for entry permit reasons... But, each their own. *shrug*

well I think it's better to work and learn a language to gain a citizenship than to marry/manipulate someone in order to get a citizenship. I see it the same way for here.
no offence to any foreigners here in canada (or in Quebec province more precisely), but I think that if any of them would like to move to Quebec province and be a citizen, I'd only give citizenship if they can speak french. I don't care if they can speak english. if they speak english, they can be a citizen in english parts of Canada. Here we speak french, so if you want to live here as a canadian citizen, learn french. we let so many foreigners in when they dont even speak english, or they know a few words, and they know absolutely no french. why live in the french part of Canada if you dont speak the language?

so I wouldn't move to finland or become a citizen if I don't speak the language! I mean it's the least you can do to respect the country where you want to live/work/study. I think that if you want to live in a swedish speaking area, you should learn swedish. but as long as you know some finnish, it's ok.
If a foreigner wants to move to Quebec province, they should know french, and they should also know some english (espescially if they live in the montreal area).

You can also move here without getting a citizenship if you are from the EU. There are so many from the EU here who can't speak any Finnish.
