Finnish Sauna

Have you ever tried a Finnish Sauna? In Russia they also wear hats in the Sauna. Could you also imagine wearing hats in a Finnish Sauna?

Re: Finnish Sauna

Hats in sauna? Are you kidding me? No seriously, I've heard about this hat tradition before.. I have no idea whats the normal temperature in Russian sauna but I'm sweating enough without the hat.
Sauna is definitely a place for relaxation for me. It must sound like a crazy idea for foreigners to sit in a room with very high temperature and make it even hotter by throwing water on the stove. I've tried to explain my Portuguese boyfriend about the heat - it's not skin-burning heat since the air in sauna is very moist. He hasnt tried sauna yet but is looking forward to. :P

Re: Finnish Sauna

I love going into the Sauna at my partners parents place. It is so nice and hot, and really relaxing to be in.
I love sitting in it after a hard days work and drinking some beer.

Re: Finnish Sauna

I love going outside for a quick sprint straight from sauna, especially during the winter. Our sauna is a separate building of its own and located about 50 metres from our house. Once I was bathing with my friend and we decided to go out for a couple of seconds with nothing but towels on. It was like -20-25 degrees outside - freezing cold in other words. While standing on the snowy sauna stairs we noticed the door behind us accidentally got locked. We had no choice but to run back at home barefooted and fetch the sauna key, extra pair of shoes and some clothes. :P

Re: Finnish Sauna

I love going to the sauna, at home or in the summer house, what first freaked me out was going to friends parties where after a few beers about 20 guys would take off all thier clothes, shower together, and sit very close to each other, but now I am the first one in. The other time was in the public swimming halls , I was used to changing rooms, and to sit in a sauna with people I did not even know was very out there.

Re: Finnish Sauna

Sauna is one of the things I miss so much from Finland, apart from my family and friends!
Sauna is really relaxing, it soothes so much that I feel quite sleepy after one. The heat is not dangerous to your body or anything. It's odd, because I hate heat, yet I love sauna. Sometimes it gets up to 45C in summer in Montreal and I find it unbearable, but I usually take my saunas between 90 and 100C <:
