Martti Ahtisaari wons this year Nobel Peace Price 2008. What do you think about Martti Athisaari? Does he deserve the prize?

there was a big article in my local newspapers (La Presse) about Ahtisaari winning the peace nobel prize. I read the article, and I think, that even though he didnt manage to restore peace in one country (I forgot the name, that was couple of days ago) (I'm not sure I remember right, but was it Kosovo?). Like they said in the article, there are a lot of good things he did to help other countries and I guess that he was a bit more "present" on the peace scene (hmm I'm not too sure how to translate it to english).

I'd say yes he deserves it. even though things didnt work for Kosovo (if that is the country).

I regret that the much neglected language, Esperanto did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. At least nine British MP's nominated this global language, for the Prize.

Within a short period of 121 years Esperanto is now placed within the top 100 languages, out of 6,000 worldwide according to the CIA factbook. It is the 17th most used language by Wikipedia, and it is in active use by Facebook and Skype.

Solid arguments for Esperanto can be seen on the Youtube video, by Professor Piron, a former translator at the United Nations.

But like 90% of the 6000 or so languages on earth belong to small indigenous pockets of people, so jumping above 5400 languages in the ranks isn't really an achievement. Also, perhaps a key thing is that Esperanto is used by virtually no-one as a first language in everyday life or at home. It being a popular second language or a hobby of linguists really doesn't put it amongst the classic established languages.

F**k the esperanto. Can't believe some people waste their time trying to make up a fake & cultureless language while so little is done to save what's left from endangered minorities' languages. [1 language dies every 15 days in this world]
It's crazy how priorities differ from one person to another...
But this is another subject.
