Default good finnish food

i love peruna and porkkana laatikko,a stew with potatoes and carrots smashed and cooked in the oven, delicious!!
and the smoked salmon, cooked near a bone fire, in that particular way that only finnish can do...
i can make a very nice makkarakeitto..
alcohol is extremely expansive in finland ,everybody knows that and try to buy things like wine or vodka abroad!! all my finnish friends, before returning home, buy a hell of alcohol from Germany, where is very cheap compare to Finland!

Default Carrot Box

I English I call the rice dish Carrot Box.
I make it with rice, mashed carots & Golden syrup.
Boil a small amout of rice, cook carrots about a small bag,
then combine all 3 ingredients.
Butter a pyrex dish, then sprinkle dried breadcrumbs, add rice, carrots & golden syrup, top with more breadcrumbs & dot with butter,
I cook is for about 30 minutes on 180.
My Aussie friends love it..in fact a few Finnish family members tell me it is GREAT!!!
I love the taste.

My favorite food is definitely new potatoes and herring. I also like the traditional Christmas casseroles and ham. I miss eating things like viili in the US. I'm too lazy to make it myself. I also miss salmiakki, but I'm glad to have friends who remember me from time to time by shipping me some. My mom makes the best cabbage stew and meatballs. You can't beat them! My dad makes the best 'kiinanpata' and spaghetti bolognese. Can't wait to go home and eat... *drools*

I'm not a big drinker to begin with, but I've been told that Koskenkorva is one of the best/better vodkas in the world. I don't think they really export it though. You guys should try it when in Finland.
