Dad's father grew up on a farm near Naarjoki in rural Satakunta, south of Pori and east of Rauma. My daughter and I visited the farm this past summer.

Mom's father was Karelian, from a little village on Lake Ladoga south of Sortavala (now part of Russia). We visited Pohjois Karjala in the summer of 2006.

Mom's mother's family moved to the USA from Ii, a small town in North Ostrobothnia between Oulu and Kemi. We are going there next summer.

We are not sure about dad's mom. That is a future project & trip!

Finland is breathtaking with its nature, espically in winter, what I live for, I love the cold weather and snow.

Very interesting - I love genealogy - that is how I found out about all my Finnish relatives.

I think finland is all of those things and more.
But anyway I choosed Santa Claus

I voted for sauna although I fell in love with Finland through metal bands

I voted for sauna! I grew up with an outdoor wood-fired sauna in my back yard. There are a lot of Finnish immigrants in my home town and everyone had a sauna! But it also reminds me of family, because although I'm also half Hungarian, I spent far more time with the Finnish side of my family because they lived in the same area.
