Thread: How to get a dog in Finland

I would be interested in getting to know where I can get a dog here in Finland.

in Finland the dogs are bought directly from breeders. In this link

you can find the breed clubs that have the list of the breeders in their sites to find pure breed dogs. The headline Pentuvälitys = member of the club who checks out that the breeders and their dogs are ok and he or she is to be contacted when in need of the info about puppies. Many breeders have their own web pages too where you can see their dogs and you can contact them directly.
Another way to get contact is to go to dogshows and chit chat with the breeders there.
Then there are the magazines where you can put a free advertice, there you can find mixed breeds too. They have netversions of these too, like Keltainen Pörssi - autot, asuminen, elektroniikka, perhe ja terveys, vapaa-aika, pyöräily ja kelkat, veneily, maatalous, rakentaminen, liiketoiminta, huvit ja kontaktit .
The breeder should be checking your cabability to take care of the dog rather than seem to be keen to get your money. If you are going to invest lots of money to a dog, ask around about the breeder. If you buy a pure breed you have to be sure that the puppy's are registered and that you will get the register papers. Always make a contract. It states the seller and buyer and the price and if there are any known illnesses or other mistakes or breeding regulations that affect the price. You are supposed to get instructions how to take care of your puppy - feeding, grooming, vaccinations etc. Go to see how the breeder lives, if it doesn't look right to you, don't go for the puppy!
So I would suggest to get a friend or make new friends who know about the dogs you like and take your time to find your own fluffy barker. We have good dogs in Finland.
I don´t know how clear this answer was, but please do ask more if needed.

I checked it out, but in my opinion this breeders page is very difficult if you are not 100 percent sure wich sort of dog you want to get. And this breeding-dogs goes to shows and events, so I think they are much more expensive; maybe to much breeding-style for somebody searching just for a dog-as-a-friend.

Now I´m interrested in if somebody knows how to get commen dogs, some mixtures or so. In supermarkets there are from time to time puppies to sell (each kind of, also mixtures) at this "I want to sell wall". A friend of mine owns dogs, no karrel or what do you call it, but there are all cool and friendly dogs, he even uses them for hunting reasons. He git them by a friend who knows somebody that neighbours has a dog...and so on. So it seems to be quite difficult for a foreigner...

Another question is if there must be paid tulli for dogs. I heard that in city regions like Helsinki it is common, and on countryside the must be paid nothing for having a dog, is that right? And, how much is it, maybe in Helsinki-region?
