My father may have to shut down his textile business due to losing his contracts to China. He can't compete with the low wages they pay their employees over there. He is getting some clients back though because of the low quality manufacturing practices in China. Needless to say, I too am boycotting Chinese products. I spent 3 months working there and some Chinese people are even proud to be flooding the world with their cheap rubbish.

I live in Canada and when I want something that is Finnish I do not want it
made in China. Anything that I can find that is made in Finland is a real treasure to me. There is enough garbage here that is made in China.

Here is atleast a genuinly Finnish souvenir

Why not check out Come to Finland - Start - a 100 % Finnish souvenir. And yes, I am biased .

But the book and the posters are high-quality and made in Finland.

Cheers,

//Jocke

When I visit foreign countries I try to bring gifts from home, the US, but it is hard to find things made here. Everything comes from China. I'm trying to find gifts now for our June visit to Espoo.

Years ago mom and I visited her family in Finland. Her brother took us to a small shop near his home and told us to pick anything we wanted as a memento. We picked our gifts never looking to see where it was made. When I got home from our trip I looked in the back of the gift I had picked and it was made in China. I have never been so disappointed. It felt like the meaning of the gift was lost. A couple weeks later I saw the same thing in Wal Mart and other stores to add to my disappointment.
