Thumbs up Terve!!!I'm from London :D

    Hey all!
I'm an Native English girl and I am planning on moving to Helsinki in July.

It has all happened so fast but it is now daunting on me how hard it will all be.

I don't know how easy it is for an English girl to get a job out in Helsinki?Because I would need one quickly to pay for my rent to live there and then that brings me to renting an apartment...I have never done that in England let alone Finland haha?

    Is it possible?

Hi Kylie!!!! Let me be honest with you! First, its not easy to get a job if you dont speak Finnish at all!!!!! There only very few places where you can speak English, but at the moment is very hard!!! MAybe during summer willbe easier. Then, accomodation! Another problem bcoz it is very expensive, and hard to find. Im tellin you by my own experience, coz I have studied a bit Finnish, but the only job I got was in a club collecting glasses!!!! So...Good luck!

    Hye Kylie
I hope that u will enjoy Finland cause u will come at summer time and thats a good begining , second for a job as our friend said its not something easy but also not impossible but it need to be patient you cant expect to find one as fast as u think so you sould take care of the money you will pay for renting specially here in Helsinki its expencive but u r from England and its a bit same
,now as a English native speaker you may apply for some places for freelance job like some English schools here ,but for having a big chances for finding job u need to learn the Languages even a lil so u may join a Basic cource in England now for a month is better for you .
and from now try to check the Finnish websites for finding job cause u may find some god shots for you .
BTW what is you qualification , may be we can try to help u more .

    Hello thankyou for the reply...
You said I could do some freelance English teaching that is something that I was quite intrested in but what would I have to study in order to be qualified to do that?
Oh and I know the basics of the language as I have a finnish friend I talk to everyday and he helps me out a lot...I dont think there is any finnish courses in England :s none that I know of anyway
I have 10 GCSE's and 3/4 A levels in Media(Moving Image) but I guess that will get me no where...I'm sure I will need like a degree or something huh?

    Hi Kylie
if there is no Finnish courses in England so I think u should begin right now do some self study by using books or the webpages that u can check in the Dialogs thread here.
cause If u dont have degree u really need the languages , but that doesnt mean u dont have chance but its need time , i am sorry that i keep saying But but but , thats the life here always but .
I will try to find out the name of the english schools here and try to send it to u may be u can contact them but any always need a direct contact better I think .and in summer chances for gettin job increas .
just keep move on friend and everythings will work out believe me .

    Hey Kylie,

Im from Watford, and moved over here just under two years ago.
It can be damn hard finding a job, but in Helsinki it shouldn't be hard finding something. The best way is to register with an agency, and if you dont mind cleaning for example, you wont have any problems for the first few months.
One good agency is Lassila & Tikanoja OY.
My situation is different, as I live near Imatra in the east of Finland. Much smaller place with fewer jobs around. Also, Helsinki isn't boring!, it's more like a big town than a city, and there are pleanty of good bars to waste your money on. Just come over and try your hardest to make friends and settle in.
The language on the other hand, well I think it takes around five years to get a good grasp on it
