I'm an Aussie too and I've never heard an Australian say anything about shrimps on the barbie. We call them prawns!!!!! and we don't barbecue them, we boil them! Alright then, some people here might barbecue the odd one, and the odd crayfish too, but usually it's our version of makkara that gets cooked on the barbie, same as you Finns Not too many people I know use the term drongo anymore, unless they're farmers We do say g;day and fair dinkum, a lot. And bugger!

I've spent almost a week in London and my sister had an Australian friend. I didn't understand her, so I remember that I was avoiding her xD totally different.

Haha, the slang is nothing special. I guess we speak english words the same way and in the same context as everyone else that speaks english haha. I love it how Finnish people talk english and they say that their english is terrible, when in the listeners opinions their english is really good xD

My dad barbecues them some times. I have never heard an Aussie talk about shrimps on the barbie, and let alone, myself, have never said 'fair dinkum', and I never say Bugger unless if I'm reciting Jack Sparrow lines xD

Maybe it's just me, but for some reason whenever there's international exchanges like this site, somehow I always feel like there's an Australian person nearby - or something like that. Don't get me wrong, it's always cool talking to you guys, but I get this sense that many Australians are constant, or almost constant, world travelers. Is there some truth to this or am I a little crazy? I have doubted my sanity before so it could be both .

I know the original poster is looking for a finnish penpal, but would you care to talk to an American one too? Is anyone looking for a penpal in general?

I guess thats partly true, even though a lot of foreigners say that Australia is like a utopia compared to where they are but Aussies seem to get around like most other people xD
I have a few penpals, and I'm more than happy for more.

Ah ok. That makes sense. I forgot my opinions were clouded by one Australian girl I met - she had an unusual accent, it was like a mix between British and Irish - but anyway she seemed like she was world weary, but at the same time she could never settle down in one place for long.

Oh well. But yeah, as far as penpals are concerned I'd love to chat now if you're interested.

I think it's actually more likely for a European or American to travel a lot because they can just drive over border lines but we have to sail or fly.

Wherever I go, it seems like there are British people everywhere.

That too. And its cheaper I s'pose for them to travel because they have less ground to cover and can get from point a to point b in lesser time I guess.

Wherever I go, it seems like there are New Zealanders everywhere.
