Default Finland bound!

Hi everyone/anyone!

I have plans to migrate over to Finland from Canada in late June/July. I have never been there before and i'm pumped as hell about going because from what i've seen scenery wise, it's absolutely amazing. I'm looking to get a little more info before I go however on some of the more entertaining things to do while i'm there. I'm less interested in the traditional touristy things and more interested in meeting some new people, Fins and travelers also, and learning from them what is best to see and do. I would love to learn whatever I can to make my experience that much better!
Cheers,
Steve

Maybe you should first come as a Tourist to Finland and then decide if you want to migrate here?!?

Can you speak Finnish? If not it might be difficult to find a job here (depending on what you did before).

Where do you want to live in Finland permanently?

So, welcome to Finland!!!

As Snow says, maybe you may want to come as a tourist first and then decide if you would like to migrate definitely.... the language issue is very important, don't underestimate it...

lol sorry about that guys.. I meant migrate as in visit, nothing permanent :P

I agree however that it would be smart to learn the language before moving there permanently haha

what a pity you couldn't find anything, seems that 2 months is "so few" time to find a job in this country....

anyway good luck in your going back to home!!!

Sorry to hear about your experience with not finding a job. Two months is, for sure, too short a period for finding a job especially if you don't speak Finnish. I can tell it from our own experience.

I could say that my dear hubby (from the UK) got his first job and practically only accidentally. He is a trained professional with years of work experience but the skills in Finnish were more or less nothing.
He/we sent some hundreds of applications, got a few replies and the job he got was almost like an accident. Well it turned out to be one which they couldn't get any Finns to do. He did that for only a few months cause it was pure exploitation . After that he got his second job (no Finnish necessary) and stayed in that until that company moved its' business to even less paying place, Tallinn. After that he looked for a job for over a year and finally got one and this has really prooved out to be a good one.

To find a job fast you need either good connections/friends and making use of them or you need to be able to speak at least some Finnish. Language is, unfortunately, the key to so many things in this country and it cannot be overemphasized!
