 Terve!
Hei everyone,
I'm an English girl who's currently living in Ireland. I recently fell in love with Finland, and have since spent my time seeking out information on all things Finnish. I'll be flying over to Tampere at the start of October, dividing my time between friends in Akaa and Rauma for a few months. Looking forward to experiencing my first Suomi Winter! Hopefully I'll be moving over there next Summer if all goes well, so I'll need to start getting my limited Finnish skills up to scratch. I look forward to getting to know you all! |

 In Love with Finland!
Hi lacewings!
I was lacewings, just came across your profile,and thought to let you know, I am experiencing just the same as you are,but perhaps I am not as lucky as you might be. I am in love with Finland just the same way,but not getting enough opportunity to visit it like you so soon, but hope to do that sometime in the future. Hence, wish you all the best,and hope you have the time of your life when you go there.And do share all your experiences here with all of us, so that we could get benefitted in whatever way possible. Welcome to the forums!
I hope you'll enjoy your trip to Finland, even though fall isn't always the best time of the year. You might get some snow even... I know I found myself in snow last October in southern Finland. Have a wonderful trip! |

Thank you, everyone!
I'm sure I will have an amazing time, one I won't forget in a long while at least. I'll be taking lots of pictures, and will definately post up my experiences here. Thankfully I have some very generous friends who'll be helping me adjust to the Finnish way of life, and will also be my translators should I need a helping hand. I would love to see some snow while there. Apparently it was a black Christmas last year? Or so I was told. So fingers crossed it falls this year. Just over a month left before I get on that plane! Is there anything I should remember to bring with me? Other than warm clothing. |

Moi LaceWings I am English too  I moved to Finland just under 2 months ago now...and I'm loving it yaaay I'm sure you will have a great time here and the language thing well...Me, personally I have been picking up a lot of words and phrases but I can't make full sentences yet but I'm sure that will come later so just concentrate on learning the important words like your hellos and goodbyes and thankyous and yes' and no's and then your vocabulary will expand from there

Alright, I'll make sure my check list will include warm clothing... and even more warm clothing!
Kylie - Has there been anything that's taken a while to adjust to over there? I'm certainly looking forward to my stay, although I am curious about any differences I might experience. As for the language, I think I have a grasp of the basics and hopefully during my time spent there I'll pick up some more words and phrases as well. I've tasked my friends with teaching me Finnish while I'm with them, which I'm sure will result in them laughing at my attempts! |

No No they won't laugh they will appreciate that your making effort to talk their very difficult language... There is a lot to adjust to I guess but it depends on you individually like if you might get home sick or miss things you can't over here like for me I miss bisto gravy and quavers HAHA so maybe bring some things over for yourself that you think they might not sell here... There is a few things to adjust to but like I said its different for everyone but just go out enjoy yourself, make more friends and it will soon feel like home and you wont wanna leave
