Yes, do as afinnegirl says, you need a social security/health car (its called KELA in Finland) otherwise it looks like you are a tourist without the E111 form/card. Have you even got the EU health card.

This is a start - Freedom of movement in the EU-Information from CitizensInformation.ie

    KELA - KELA

Maybe one of our Finnish friends can find better links.

its normal, because europe is like heaven for people from 3rd world countries, scandinavia especially because of the opportunity they're giving to other people.Free universities+high salaries etc
Personally i believe my country will fall in 10 years or fall in the hands of fanatic muslims(look at iran)thats whyi want to go to finland and live there. But not everyone is doing it legally.
    thats normal,for all western countries

    here's reality check:
i met this guy. he has lived here for years. so he is a permanent resident of finland. but what he does for living!? he is registered as unemployed, gets benefits, soci, kela etc. he squeezes the system till he gets a last drop of it. thing is this guy has flashy car and works at bar at night. apparently, does pay f%&k all to government.

I does not matter whether you're from a Western country or not. If it's not a EEA country (European Economic Area), you have same rights as people from the third world. The only advantage is to be able to stay here 3 months without a visa.

My residence permit has expired as well, and now I live without one. But since I have a Canadian passport, I can stay here three months as a "tourist".

It is unrealistic to come here for working, unless you have exceptional skills which are needed on the local labour market. It is easier to come as a student (as I did), and then look for a job. But without good Finnish chances are very small. I have not found a job after seaching for one year. Now I am going to study here again.

You can encounter a few beggars on the streets, but not many. There were more in Quebec (Canada), where I lived before. However, here you can see quite many drunkards, especially in summer.

I spaced on my residence permit limit and was there 10 days over. I was moving back to Canada for work and was hassled in Stockholm over it. She said i wouldnt be allowed back on this visa.
I said to her, "Baby, im going back to Canada, man. Not Kerblabbistan where i get to wipe ass barehanded".
She smirked and waved me through. So yes, i know the stigma of being an illegal alien in Finland.
