you need to have a friendly-immigrant attitude to do this..and frankly, they are not friendly at all..especially if you have dark skin.... don´t even say hello, good morning when they meet you in the building..i ´ve never seen such rudeness in my life!! they just ignore you.. and what about the fantastic weather here?? 3-4 hours of gray light during the whole winter.....strong, cold wind all-year around...mmmmhh..very attractive!!
jobs situation: what decent jobs are available if you dont speak finnish??
I am soo disappointed (and i have a Finnish husband ..)

About the english language. In my opinion, almost the whole world speaks it. So, I think it should be used to communicate with other countries, like doing some trades from a country to a different one. Of course doing this kind of job, usually you will use only english. But if the companie is finnish, in Finland... why do they have to speak english? I don't get it. Of course it's not a easy language to learn, so the employees need a time. Maybe doing a half time job, and studying the other time is a good idea. This way you can hire 2 people, paying like if they were one, while they still can't speak the language. Then after they can communicate and understand it, in a good level, the employer can decided which person is the best for the companie. This way, the other person could at least have some recomendation letter or something like.

You do realize that Finns are like that no matter what color your skin may be? As a people, Finns keep to themselves. It's considered almost crazy to look someone in the eye as you pass them on the street or sit across from them on the metro. There are always exceptions to rules and you should try to find people who are more open minded about foreigners. I personally am trying to do that right now. I don't want to hang out with plain Finns and thus have joined several international groups to meet people who are either foreigners who have moved to Finland or Finns who are interested in being more globally aware.
    Follow your bliss!!!
