Wink Want to discover new finnish bands? Look here!

You want to discover new finnish bands? well this is the place. post 5, 10 or 15 bands (or more, feel free!) of some finnish bands you like. write in between ( ) what type of music that band plays(you dont have to be super precise about it), and if you have some extra time to spend on the forum, just tell a bit about the band!

(I'll just post 5 for now)

Disco Ensemble (pop-rock) A band from Pori that is know quite known across Finland and Europe. They went to Warped Tour in the US this summer. Also a really amazing band to see live. and really laid back band mates.

Apocalyptica ("metal") One of the most unique band ever! they play metal with cellos. also really nice band live!

Apulanta (rock/metal/Im not too sure :P) they sing in Finnish, and its quite an old band, from the 90's, if I'm correct! nice band live!

Downstairs (hardcore) small indie band. The voice is rough.

Damn Seagulls (pop/rock) nice band to listen to! has made the ending credits for the Dudesons movie :P

Lapko (alternative) a trio. I think they are a really nice band. Their latest album is really nice. (Yound Desire)

Nume (alternative) one of my friend's band. it's quite nice, I think

Supermassive (pop/rock) another of my friend's band.

absorb your zines (acoustic) same friend from the band Supermassive.

mokoma (metal) sings in finnish. like them a lot too, nice live!

Olavi Uusivirta (pop) sings in Finnish. the song Niin kuin eilenkin is nice

Regina (pop) sings in Finnish. Female vocalist.

Ripsipiirakka (punk/pop/rock) sings in Finnish. it really isnt the best band ever, the lyrics are dumb, but, lyrics are quite easy to understand.. you can learn vocabulary :P not so useful though....

Rubik (alternative/pop/rock) really cool band, I like them a lot.

Stam1na (metal) sings in finnish. lyrics are a bit weird/stupid, but you can learn new words!

    Stanley (pop/rock) nice indie band!

Rites of Youth (metal/Hardcore) indie band too.

Tracedawn (metal) young finns. good energy on stage!

Uniklubi (alternative) sings in finnish. nice band too.

Apocalyptica is so amazing. They're the best concert I've seen so far actually. The Damn Seagulls are pretty amazing too. Some I've never heard of, will check them out.

I suggest PMMP, Lovex, Negative, Amorphis, and Andy McCoy's first album. haha.

I'm sure most of everyone knows those bands already but I thought I'd type them out anyways.

Well, to add a few some of you may already know, but it's just to build up the list... and I'll try to explore another music styles also...
Some of them are not actually my faves, but as we are listing Finnish bands, there's place to them all...

Poets of the Fall (pop rock). Pretty nice pop rock band, they won over Lordi the best Finnish band act the same year the monsters won what you know they won... That drives me to...

    Lordi ("hard" rock). hallellujah

Sturm um Drang (pop rock). Some young guys tryin' to make rock

    Negative (pop rock). Idem

Indica (pop-folk-rock). This girls are absolutely amazing, at least for me. Their music is quite unique, Jonsu's voice is one of a kind (or you like it or you just don't) and the best part of it is... THEY SING IN FINNISH! (well, actually not when they are touring with Nightwish, which is a shame...)

Klamydia (punk rock). I do not know even how to describe what this band does... LOL... well, their lyrics (in Finnish) are quite funny.

Lau Nau (chill out). Radical change of style, no more rock. Lau Nau is for those who want to relax listening to beautiful Finnish lyrics in a soft and cool atmosphere

    Kaksio (pop). Quite nice duet.

Värttinä (folk). Very famous vocal group, considered one of the best world music ensembles in the world. Pretty sure most of you already heard about them ;-)

Lauri Tähka ja Elonkerjuu (Folk). I've seen this ensemble is as loved as it is hated. Quite nice tunes in some of their songs, though. Quite stupid lyrics in some other ones... But nice to give it a try. It's in Finnish ;-)

Lissut (pop). Lolly-lolly-teen- pop... just for the record.

The 69 Eyes (metal) Coming back to rock music... this ones have been rocking for years, quite legends...:-p

Von Hertzen Brothers (rock). Another great rock band for our Finnish collection.

22-Pistepirkko (Alternative) Don't know really well where to classify this band. Worth a try if you wanna go alternative...

Bomfunk MC's (funk) Don't think that they are still active... are they?. Well, anyway, nice music... they ruled the world for a while with their "Freestyler"

Scandinavian Music Group ( folk?) Is a group formed by former Ultra Bra members. Nice, feel good music, with a touch of folk...

Well, I've got a lot more in my pocket, but I guess I wrote enough for a while...

    Nice thread reea

    My fav:

Moonsorrow. Epic-Heathen Metal, as they describe themselves. Some folk influences and some Black Metal influences. If you're not into metal, probably you won't like it.

Here's a song, "Kaiku" from "Verisäkeet"

    YouTube - Moonsorrow- Kaiku

Impaled Nazarene. Black Metal with loads of Thrash and Punk influences. Rough voices and quick guitars. The drums are like machineguns haha. Again: if you're not into metal, you will not like this band.

Machine Men. Melodic Heavy Metal. Not one of my favs, but a good band though. I used to listen to them a lot. Loads of Iron Maiden influences, but becomes pretty 'soft' sometimes.

    Smile

    Here's Kata's brother's band which I like a lot: Throw Away Heroes
    Their myspace:
Throw Away Heroes ~album out in March~ bei MySpace Music - Kostenlos MP3s anhören, Bilder & Musikvideos ansehen

They're quite new and need some time to develop a bit more, they'll just have their first album out on March, but I think they're very good, especially the Daddy -song. They have gigs in Helsinki too if somebody of you is interested.
