Default Government support while studying

Does anyone know how much the Government pays to Finnish people who are studying at Uni? Is there like an education allowance? I can't find the information I want on the KELA website. I want to know how much a mature age student with a family would get studying full time.

I think you get like 450 EUR but you must have lived here for 2 years or worked here before if you are not a Finn.

You may also get a cheaper flat to live in.

Default Student financial aid

Hi Peni,

Have you seen what can be found on these pages?

KELA - Financial aid for students

Koulutusrahasto

To my mind those are the main "institutions" granting student financial aid.

TC!

Default Kela

well im a student in Finland.i came to finland september,2007.well kela is not for international student. But i had a discussion with one of representative at a kela office in helsinki.she told me if i can have health insurance with a finnish company and i have work contract in finland.salary should be at least 850 euro.and i write in application that i am planing to work continously and paying tax.i can apply for kela card.well i dont have insurance with finnish company but i do have a job contract and salary slips.so i have applied for kela.they will give me there decsion in two months.so i can let u guys know wat happend to me. )
You are posting too fast!
I think these kela guys just wanna make sure that we will not be a burden on them. as if a kela card holder become un employed he is eligible for an un employed fund and also student aid and medical discounts.so if someone have health insurance with finnish company and a job contract.so he is not a burden on kela

Some why I have a feeling that working is the only option for a foreign student in Finland. I'm also trying to find ways how to get my studies supported financially and this far I haven't been very successful... but I'm not giving up!

I have found some scholarships offered by different funds but I took a look at some people who have received them and they appear to be pretty bright ones, so for an ordinary student it's a bit hard...

I guess my next step is going to be writing to some companies with hope that they have some interest in helping me. Not that I would hope a lot but I have a feeling that it might work. Unfortunately I personally don't have much time to do it because the beginning of school time is just one and half month away

Exclamation Have you seen this?

Hi again Peni!

I wonder if you've checked the file (Word document) about Student financial aid 2008 which can be found on this particular KELA site:
KELA - Financial aid for students

There's all info you are looking for. The rules are quite complicated but the doc will give you your answers.

Good luck
