Default Going to Helsinki for the first time

Hi,
I'm going to visit Helsinki around 4-7 of July. Would you be so kind to suggest me some ideas for spending a weekend in Helsinki.

What do I want to do?
Well, I'm definitely a city creature.
I'd love to go for a long walk and wander through the street just to experience the achitecture and see how the everday's life looks.
Flea market and second hand shops would be a nice place to be.
And of course some nightlife hints are more than welcome.

Thanks,
Witek

well, have a look in the Gallery..there are several places shown in Helsinki.

Suomenlinna is great, you can visit the zoo or go to several museums for example...

Default Hello

Hi there,

If you want to visit a fleamarket you should go to hietalahden kirpputori. It is open air and people are selling their own stuff so you get a chance to negotiate about the price
I understood it should be open at least on the weekends on saturdays from 8-15 and on sundays from 10-16.

Suomenlinna (Suomenlinna)
is something you should see, but make sure the weather is sunny and warm when you go there It can be quite windy there.
Suomenlinna

If you want to see architecture, you should at least take a look at the Helsinki Cathedral which I think is almost the most beautiful building you can see in this city. That will be hard not to notice, since it is almost in the middle of the city centre - at the senate square.
Also the parliamentary house looks somewhat interesting.
If you are interested in museums: For art: Ateneum, Kiasma,
For history:The national museum of Finland, Helsinki City Museum.

Here some links about those:

About the restaurants and partying....what kind of places would you be interested in?

Nothing in particular, to be honest. I just want to go out at night, have a good time and meet some real people. That's why I think I'd rather choose the locally popular places than the ones with folk or "traditional cousine" label (but in fact - being tourist oriented). Hope it clears my intentions a bit.

Thanks for advices so far. There are only 7 day left. I can hardly wait

Cheers,
Witek

Default hello

This one is a good restaurant, with Finnish food but also pizzas, different salads etc.
Botta: MANALA
Very good food. Price is maybe slightly higher than at pizza hut but still affordable

In the same building there is also a nightclub and some other pubs and they too are places you might spend your time.

Another good place is a restaurant/bar Belge. It should be a belgian restaurant, but I think it is quite multiculutural with it´s food. Here the prices are a bit higher again, but I am sure the atmosphere will cover the money
Belge - helsinki - pelke - pelge - belke - belgia

Kiitos Liisa, mutta missa ovat ravintolat?

Good tips Liisa, but where are those restaurants?

Default hello

There are links on my last quote. On the pages there are addresses.

Belge is right in the city centre. in the corner of Aleksanterinkatu and Kluuvikatu.

Manala is a stones throw from the parliamentary house at Dagmarinkatu.
