My wife and I are as much alike as though we'd been reared in the same village, even though I lived in the U.S. for the first 64 years of my life. She has never lived outside of Finland, although she has travelled. The few differences we have are because we are of different genders, not because of cultural differences.

This might be an old thread but I have a Finnish fiancé. We are different in every way physically possible but the same in just about every way spiritually possible in that we share equal values of love and how we want to live our lives together happily.

But as for things like music tastes and such we couldn't be more different. Similarities and differences really don't come into relationships in my opinion, it's your desire to be together and what you will do and that you will put your partner first more so than anything else in the world, in my opinion that matters.

I'm an Aussie with a Finnish husband. I moved to Finland last year, since we both agreed that Australia is just too bloody hot for anybody to live

Main differences are (of course) the language, the family closeness (in Australia, my family and I usually ring each other about once per month, but him and his mum and grandmother ring each other a couple of dozen times per day), the internet usage is much higher here than in Australia. Sauna is also a big one, which took me a while to get used to, but now I would not miss it for the world, with a minimum of once per week visits, and the other huge difference is diet. He lives for Salmiakki and Mustamakkara, whereas I often still indulge in Vegemite
